Hay Huts Sold Here

Signal Rock Farm recently received a new shipmen of hay huts!  So we are now fully stocked with Hay Huts and slow feed nets for your convenient pick up.  We are the central Massachusetts dealer for Hay Huts.  We use them here on our farm to feed all of our horses during the colder months when we no longer have grazing in our paddocks.  We loved the Hay Huts so much after getting them for just 2 paddocks that we now use them for all of our horses.  The Hay Huts are made of a heavy duty polyethylene and keep out the rain and snow while preventing the wind from blowing the hay everywhere.  Hay Huts keep the hay clean and minimize waste by keeping the horses from pawing and laying on it while still allowing the horses to rummage through the hay satisfying their seeking needs.

We find the hay huts are a huge labor savings while providing the horses better care and eliminating colic.  We provide our horses access to unlimited feed by placing large round bales in the hut after removing the bale netting or several square bales. The hut works well for either type of hay and can hold up to 16 square bales.   We find that after the first few days of having unlimited feed all of our horses self regulate their intake and do not become overweight with this feeding method.  They are all very content, not anxiously waiting for their meals 2 or 3 times a day which leads to colic.  We also find that during colder snaps of winter weather they will eat more to keep warm and this eliminates the need for us to determine for them how much feed they need.  For those horses who are already too heavy we also use a slow feed netting over the round bales inside the hay huts.

Hay Nets - 2" Opening

We now have in stock Hay Nets that are specifically made for these hay huts so when you flip the hay hut over the net goes with it.  This is so much easier, saving time and making it possible to have square bales with a hay net over them.  No more need to struggle with getting the net all the way around the round bale and tying the net off on the bottom of the bale before putting the hay hut over it.  Simply flip the hay hut like you normally do and place square bales or a round bale on the ground (or a pallet like we use) and flip the hay hut back over the hay with the net already in place inside the hut.  We have been using one of these nets for the past year and found that the horses were unable to chew holes in these nets, unlike our other ones, because the net stays loose over the hay.  As they eat the hay the net lowers with it all the way to the ground.

Hay huts are easy to transport in the back of a pick up truck as they come in two pieces and fit inside each other (see picture ->).  They require about 30 minutes to put together once you get them home.  You can visit us at our farm and stables in Charlton, Massachusetts to see for yourself.  We are more than happy to give you a tour.
